The Tamil Nadu elections concluded with a remarkable 84.51% voter turnout across the state’s 234 constituencies. Polling ended at 6 PM on April 23, 2026, with voters in line allowed to cast their ballots.

Chennai recorded a turnout of 83.03%, while Coimbatore and Madurai saw 84.35% and 80.15% respectively. Karur district led with 91.86%. Approximately 5.73 crore eligible voters participated.

The Tamil Nadu elections were a single-phase event, held at over 75,000 polling stations. Key political figures, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, cast their votes early in the day.

The main contest is between the ruling DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-BJP coalition. Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam adds a new dimension to the race.

The DMK secured 159 seats in the 2021 elections, while AIADMK held 75. This year’s results, to be announced on May 4, will determine the new government.
