The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, also known as the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2026. This significant infrastructure project aims to transform regional connectivity by reducing travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to approximately two and a half hours, down from over six hours.
The expressway, which spans through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, was constructed at a cost of ₹11,868.6 crore. It was initially launched in February 2021, with the foundation stone laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. A subsequent foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2021. The project was completed ahead of its original December 2024 deadline.
Key features of the expressway include a 12-kilometer elevated wildlife corridor through Rajaji National Park, designed to protect animal movement with multiple underpasses and tunnels. The expressway also integrates an Advanced Traffic Management System to enhance safety and efficiency.
The development of the expressway was carried out in four phases, with the first stretch becoming operational in December 2025. This stretch connects Delhi with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Baghpat. The expressway further connects to major corridors such as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and routes to Haridwar and Roorkee.
Looking forward, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is expected to boost economic activities in the region, providing seamless connectivity and supporting wildlife conservation efforts. Its completion marks a major milestone in India’s infrastructure development.
