On May 14, 2026, a tragic explosion occurred at a firecracker factory in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, killing at least two workers and injuring 15 others. The incident took place at a unit located in the Tonk Kalan area, as confirmed by Dewas Collector Rituraj Singh.
The explosion led to a fire that was eventually brought under control. Nine of the injured were referred to a hospital in Indore for further treatment. The administration has secured the explosives stored at another location within the factory premises.
According to Mr. Singh, the firecracker factory had only recently begun manufacturing small firecrackers, having obtained a license 15 days prior in the name of Anil Malviya. Local residents reported a massive explosion, with victims’ body parts found scattered far from the site.
Construction at the factory was still ongoing, with various sheds being built. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion and assess compliance with safety regulations. The incident raises significant concerns about industrial safety in the region.
