Germany has committed €40 million to enhance Faisalabad’s water infrastructure through a grant-funded agreement with the KfW Development Bank and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad. This initiative, announced on April 20, 2026, is designed to improve climate resilience and service delivery in the region.
The agreement, highlighted during a ceremony attended by German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel and Deputy Commissioner Capt (Retd) Nadeem Nasir, focuses on rehabilitating 25 tube wells, constructing new water tanks, and modernizing Gulfishan Water Works with a rapid sand filter system. It also includes the development of underground stormwater storage facilities.
Deputy Commissioner Nasir noted that a KfW appraisal mission had assessed the project’s scope in October 2025. The proposal is pending approval from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with the preparation of the PC-I underway.
This three-year project, sponsored by the Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department Punjab, is expected to significantly enhance Faisalabad’s water supply system and expand key infrastructure, addressing both current needs and future climate challenges.
