Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on May 16, 2026, to engage in strategic discussions with Iranian officials, according to Pakistani government sources. The visit, initially unannounced, was confirmed by Iran’s IRNA news agency, marking Naqvi’s second visit to Iran in two months.

During the visit, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. Araghchi highlighted the deep bilateral relationship between Iran and Pakistan, emphasizing their shared commitment to regional peace and stability.

This visit occurs amid ongoing tensions following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February, which led to Iranian retaliations. Pakistan has been actively mediating between the conflicting parties, previously brokering a two-week ceasefire in April and hosting critical talks in Islamabad.

Despite efforts, a resolution remains elusive, with Iran proposing broader talks on its nuclear program. Tehran has offered to halt uranium enrichment for five years but rejected the US demand for a 20-year moratorium. The situation continues to impact global energy supplies and regional stability, with further negotiations anticipated.
