Bangladesh Schools Closed During Ramadan 2026: The Ministry of Education in Bangladesh has announced that schools will remain closed throughout the month of Ramadan 2026, following a revision of the 2026 academic calendar. This decision, made public by the Secondary and Higher Education Division, will see educational institutions closed from February 21 to March 26, 2026.
The closure aligns with a High Court order issued last Sunday, which mandated the shutdown of schools for Ramadan. Although an appeal was filed, and the Appellate Division stayed the High Court’s directive, the Ministry proceeded with the revised holiday schedule.
The new schedule also includes a holiday on February 21 to commemorate Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day. Classes are set to resume on March 29, following the public holiday on March 26 and the weekend.
This decision reflects ongoing legal and educational challenges in Bangladesh, highlighting the complexities of aligning religious observances with academic commitments. The outcome of the legal proceedings may further influence future educational policies.
