Bangladesh Partners with BYD for Electric Car Manufacturing

Runner Automobiles PLC, a subsidiary of the Runner Group, has entered into a significant agreement with BYD Auto Industry Company to manufacture electric vehicles in Bangladesh. This announcement was made on March 24, 2026, following a board meeting held on March 20, where the agreement was approved.

The partnership is expected to be a transformative milestone for Bangladesh’s automobile industry, providing opportunities for technology transfer and boosting local production of electric cars. The announcement was made to the Dhaka Stock Exchange, and the news has already positively impacted Runner Automobiles’ stock value, which rose by approximately 10% to Tk37.50 from Tk34.10.

BYD, known for its global reputation in electric vehicle manufacturing, began selling electric cars in Bangladesh in 2024. Since then, CG-Runner Bangladesh Limited has served as the distributor for BYD’s vehicles in the country.

This strategic partnership is anticipated to have a positive impact on the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing technological capabilities. Future developments will likely include further collaborations and potential expansions in the electric vehicle sector.
